On the Preschool Activities page, I posted the following tip from Paula F:
I put the 1yo in a walker in a narrow hallway. It keeps him occupied for a while as he zips back and forth from end to end, but I can still keep an eye on him.
Kim H e-mailed me the following warning:
We know that walkers are not safe, and they do not work the same muscles used for walking (as most children in walkers are using their toes to walk and not flat feet) we also know that overuse can lead so more serious conditions such as hip dislocations. Young children can exercise their Gross Motor skills much better on a blanket on the floor. If the child needs to be in a safe location for a very brief period of time, place him strapped into an activity seat (bouncer, not upright), a swing, his crib or a play pen.
